John - ?It was great chatting with you at Boulevard Music - and what a great show it was indeed. Your singing and playing is better than ever. Im glad you remembered Kalapana and the Top of the Shop days. B&Rs concert at the Waikiki Shell in Hawaii (circa 74) was wonderful and I remember those white chairs. It was so cool of you guys to stop in the Top of Shop to hear our 13 minute version of Can You See Him". Also - thank you for letting me check you two axes - that D-21 is awesome!

The "house concert" at Nancy Emrich's featuring yourself and James Lee Stanley was an incredible event. I feel honored to have attended. Thanks for all the great music over the years.

I recently saw you with James Lee Stanley at the Sinnissippi band shell in Rockford - Illinois. I just wanted to say that it was one of the most enjoyable acoustic concerts I've ever been to. Thank you for a great evening of music.

John - After twenty five years you are about to sit down with Mark and play again in my adopted home town of San Diego.(I actually live up in the mountains of San Diego in a little town called Julian.Except for a reunion of the Beatles - nothing has excited me more than the thought of you and Mark playing together again. Your music has been a part of my life since those first notes of "Oh My Surprise" that I heard back in 1971.I hope that you will feel my spirit there with you on the 30th of July because my family and I will unfortunately be in Oregon on a 3 week camping trip beginning this coming Tuesday - the 25th. Believe me when I tell you that I regret few things in my life - I have been a blessed man - but on the evening of the 30th wherever I may be camping under the stars in some off the beaten path spot in Oregon - I will somehow know that my day will be a little less than it could have been for missing you and Mark.Perhaps now was not meant to be the time for myself and my family to be there to see you - but hopefully later down the road that time will be right.Enjoy San Diego and have a wonderful evening with your friends.Sincerely - Jim Kaltenthaler

Wow - my brother from Dayton just forwarded me your announcement that you'll be in the Wisconsin area this weekend so hopeful that i can get to one of the shows. Listening to "Home Again" off your web site brought back 30 years (eeekk!) since i saw you at The Palace in Dayton. Still sounds like the best acoustic music that can be found. Looking forward to your new stuff. Thanks for hanging in there. Chris

Yow... thanks to pandora.com - I heard "Paint it Black" and saw your name. "Hmmm...'Batdorf' isn't all that common a name - " I thought - "Could it be...?" and I see that it is. Thanks for creating some fine music. "Home Again" is distilled joy - and just what this depressed college kid needed when it came out.

We first saw you - Mark and the band at Long Beach State College in 72 or 73. To this day Batdorf and Rodney is the band of choice for the DeCuir brothers. I'm sure there will be lots played when we get together in Medford Oregon next month.

Finally - I found you again! Have always been a huge fan of your music. One day as I was driving down the road - "Home Again" came on the radio and I was thrilled to death as I haven't heard that song in years. I had to pull over so I could hear every word and note so I wouldn't miss a thing! When I listen to your music - it makes me feel like I am TOTALLY alive and I can't get enough of it. The lyrics in your songs are fantastic and really make you think about life in a deeper way. I have requested to my family - that when my time comes and it's time for me to meet my Maker - I want "Home Again" played at my funeral. Thank you for sharing your God given talents to all of us. And...we would love to see you in ST. LOUIS - MO.

John: My wife and I really enjoyed seeing you at Canal Street in Dayton the other night. The acoustic Stones music was great! Bought the new CD on the way out. Thirty years ago I would have bet against me ever buying such a thing - but you've given it new life. Also great to hear some of the old Batdorf and Rodney stuff - even though it's 30 years old - its timeless and still stands up (we will have to buy the CDs now). You and Stanley really compliment each other. It's been fun watching your career unfold - first watching you bang out Monkee's tunes on the piano at kid birthday parties at the Semler farm (mid 60s) - those first B & R albums (early 70s) - a Silver concert at Wittenberg U (late 70s) - hearing your voice and music on TV shows and commercials (80s and 90s) - and now back to Dayton to play acoustic Stones - what a trip!Your cousin Kurt wanted me to bring my Silver Album to Canal Street - but I opted not too - as I thought you wouldn't appreciate him screaming his requests for "Wham Bam"? from the audience! You taught me my first song (lick) on the guitar at one of those Semler farm visits way back when - believe it was "Little Black Egg"?. Since then I never have been far from a guitar and I thank you for that. Good luck!

John - I just wrote a short personal note to you but realized there may be some people who would like to know about your beginnings. When you were 14 - we(the Trojans-a Dayton Ohio group specializing in Dylan and other not so often played artists)saw you at the Blue Moon in Xenia. Our lead singer was leaving for Viet Nam and we said "That's our new lead singer" You came to my parents house for an audition - bringing your electric piano - and blew us away with your "Summer in the City" Jon Sebastian tune. Immediately you became the center of the Trojans. All the teenie boopers would scream and holler when you'd get down on your knees and wale a tune like "Ruby Tuesday" or "I've Got You Babe". Our style changed to adapt to your talents and it certainly launched us into sub orbit. When we all graduated from high school (you were two years younger than us) we went to college and you went to LA. That's when you left sub orbit and we all know the rest. I'm glad you've never lost your roots. That was illustrated when you called me to give me front row seats at a B&R concert in Philly when I was in medical school. We stood up and left before Bread came on stage because you and Mark were done. As far as we were concerned - the concert was over. People thought we were weird to leave front row seats - but we old Trojans needed to discuss a few things. It really amused me yesterday when I called you and you asked me if I ever finished medical school. I think that radical - long haired medical student (still living in his rock and roll days)didn't inspire much confidence that I would become a surgeon. Great to see you and come full circle after 40 years. Hope to see you again soon.

Great seeing you last night John. When you get to Maui look us up so we can rehash the primitive days in the Trojans.
