Description

I love the fact that in this digital age songwriters can release their new material within weeks of the original idea. The old days of spending a year or more writing songs to make an album are clearly over and I think that’s a good thing. Songwriters are inspired by real life as it happens and the music should be heard when it is most relevant. My last three releases, all EPs are just that. Write ‘em, record ‘em and release ‘em. That’s my new model going forward. I hope you enjoy the new music. If not, there’s more coming!!!

Thank you all for your support!
-John

Track 01 – Something’s Bothering Me

What a crazy world we live in and it seems like it’s something new everyday! Seems there’s always Something Bothering Me!

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf: Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Piano, Bass and Percussion
Dean Parks: Electric Guitars
It’s been building up, for so much longer than I ever knew
The disappointment in everything that really hasn’t changed
I tried to carry the torch of hope and maybe sing the truth, sing the truth
Musical remedies all they left is everything the same
Tell me why is the noise just getting louder
All of the sweetness turning sourSomething’s bothering me and I don’t know what to say
I wanna turn things around but I’m just spinning now,
I’m spinning round

It’s not one single thing, it’s not one problem that we need to solve
It’s really everything this house of cards finally has to fall
Tell me why is the noise just getting louder
All of the sweetness turning sour

Something’s bothering me and I don’t know what to say
I wanna turn things around but I’m just spinning now
Can’t hold on much longer while I’m feeling this way
I wanna turn things around but I just don’t know how

Is this paranoia haunting me
What can I do now to set me free

Something is bothering me I don’t know what to say
I wanna turn things around but I’m just spinning now
Not sure how how I can hold on while I feel this way
I wanna turn things around but I just don’t know how
Something is bothering me I don’t know what to say
I wanna turn things around but I’m just spinning round
Not not sure how how I can hold on while I feel this way
I wanna turn things around but I just don’t know how

Track 02 – Famous Enough

This is a song about me and my musical journey that thankfully continues!

“I never got paid the megabucks, but I was famous enough”.

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf: Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Piano, Bass and Percussion
Michael Dowdle: Electric Guitars

I never had a million sellin’ record
Or a song that topped the charts
But I was Touched by an Angel
And my music touched some hearts

I wasn’t the biggest rock star out there
But I shared the stage with some
I sang my heart out every show
And man did I have fun

And I … often hear folks ask me
Why I…didn’t soar much higher
And I…have a very honest answer
I never got paid the megabucks
But I was famous enough,
I was famous enough

I never had a private limo driver
But the story that I tell
I drove myself to the Oscars
Then I sang with Adele

I signed a record deal with Atlantic
And was welcomed to the fold
They gave that new guitar
I used in Muscle Shoals

Still I…often hear people ask me
Why I spent my life freelancing
And I have a very honest answer
I really liked bein’ my own boss
Cause I was famous enough

When we started a family near forty years ago
No fans would hang out round our door
But I kept writin’ songs in between all the little league
How could I ask for more

My fame never turned me into something
I know that I’m not
I never longed for something
That I’ve not already got

When I started on this journey
I never really knew
That I’d have friends come out to hear
What I still love to do

And I … often hear folks ask me
Why I love to sing so much
And I…have a very honest answer
I found some fans that seem to love my stuff
Cause I was famous enough
Guess I was famous enough
‘cos Earle Bailey played my stuff

Track 03 – Don’t Waste The Waiting

We spend so much of our lives waiting for something to happen but deep down we know dreams only come true if we don’t waste the waiting.

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf: Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Piano and Percussion
Michael Dowdle: Electric Guitars
Chad Watson: Bass Guitar

We wait to share our lives with someone. And then we wait for them to change
We wait to start a family til it’s perfectly arranged
We wait for that new job to open. And see if we have made the grade
And then we wait to see how much that will get paid

(CHORUS)
How much of life is wasted waiting Waiting to see if dreams come true
Or if the things that overwhelm us, Will be what prevents us all, From making it through
I believe it’s time for reevaluate this thing, we should know
Dreams only come true If we don’t waste the waiting

You’re waiting for true love to find you You’re waiting for your Prince to come
You’re waiting for someone to say that You’re the only one
You’re waiting for your ship to come in You’re waiting for the storm to pass
You wait for promises and pray they’re gonna last

(CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
And every morning the choice we’re making
Will we move on or just keep on waiting What are we really waiting for?

You’re waiting for someone to hear you You’re waiting for a helping hand
You’re waiting for the plane to reach the promised land
You’re waiting for the gates to open You’re waiting to be welcomed in
You wait to sing a song of peace on earth again

(CHORUS)

(Tag)

Oh it’s true Dreams only come true
If we don’t waste the waiting

Track 04 – I’ll Let Roy’s Song Carry Me Home

This song kept haunting me and begged to be written. Not knowing my long-term future was, I went into my studio and, with Michael McLean’s help, “I’ll Let Roy’s Song Carry Me Home” became my potential “Happy Trails” song.

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf: Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Piano, Bass and Percussion
Michael Dowdle: Electric Guitars
Bill Batstone: BGVs
Scott Foxx: Fiddle

I’m not a wannabe cowboy
And I’m not at home on the range
I like to fish, but that’s about it
And Cowboy hats make me feel strange
But the road took a turn that surprised me
And I’m more than just down on my luck
If I was a drinkin’ man, I’d probably take my van
Down to the bar that’s surrounded by trucks
Though I never liked country songs much

So I can’t soothe my soul in a bottle
My woman I’d never forsake
I’m not church goin’ and God isn’t showin’ me
Where guys like me catch a break
So I’m here on the highway just drivin’
But I’m feelin’ Roy Rogers nearby
He’s smilin’ at me and singing a melody
And I’ll be damned if I know why
It kind of makes me wanna cry

And the wind is whispering a farewell, all night long
But there’s something comforting me in this darkness
It sounds in my head like some old country song

I stop for gas and pick up a soda
I pull back onto Route 70
A deep brand of lonely got his arms round me
This ain’t how the end’s supposed to be
But then Roy and Trigger are with me
And showin’ the trail I should go
This one ain’t happy as I hoped it could be
But I don’t feel so all alone
I’ll let Roy’s song carry me home

Track 05 – Lillian

I grew up as a teenager on my own in Los Angeles from 1967 on. This is an enhanced story about a guy like me being befriended by a young woman and the enjoyment the night lead him to. There is a first time for everything so they say!!!

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf: Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Piano, Bass and Percussion
Michael Dowdle: Electric Guitars
Pete Kartsounes: BG Vocals
I was barely sixteen and was living on my own
I left the Midwest now I called LA my home
I love the sea and sunshine, I left the gray skies behind
This was the place I’d spend the best years of my lifeEach night the hippies gathered on the Sunset Strip
We’d all walk for hours, on this never ending trip
Just when I thought my night ended, suddenly I was befriended
I thank my lucky stars for being here tonight

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
She took me home that night, and she made me a man
For those few moments, I just melted in her hands
I had the time of my young life, that night with Lillian

Although I kept returning, she never came back
I felt so embarrassed, for the skills I sorely lacked
Even though it was my first time, I knew I’d be better next time
I’ll slow the tempo ‘cos slow dancing’s where it’s at

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
She took me home the night, and she made me a man
For that brief moment, I just melted in her hands
I had the time of my young life, that night with Lillian

So much time has passed, and so many memories fade away
That night with Lillian is gonna last

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
She took me home the night, that I became a man
The image of this story, came to life in all it’s glory
Let’s toast the Lillians, for showing us the way

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
She took me home the night, and she made me a man
For that brief moment, I just melted in her hands
I had the time of my young life, that night with Lillian

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
She took me home that night, and she made me a man
For those few moments, I just melted in her hands
I had the time of my young life, that night with Lillian

Her name was Nancy but she went by Lillian
