Review Of My New EP

John Batdorf – I’m Not Giving Up

John Batdorf has just made another EP available – 5 songs of enthusiastic euphoria and confessional thoughts in country rock style called I’m Not Giving Up.

The title track “I’m Not Giving Up” shares the biographical “It’s like I woke up & saw the runway ahead, had been extended / Places I could go and things I could do that I thought had ended.”  This is a renewal.

“At This Age” is a bit of a tongue-in cheek assessment of some of sillier things folks do as we age.  “Maybe we could try and see some things are long gone … the beer belly and speedo’s not our best look….” Just a bit of relatable whimsy.  On “Cheer Me Up” John shows a touch of sweetness in this lighthearted song with lines like “That smiling face, your love and grace will always cheer me up.”

“Come Tomorrow” is an acoustic ballad, with shakers and an emotionally connective plea — “I’ll be done soon, come tomorrow.”  Then the EP closer “None Of Us Know” hits easy and glorious vibes with the reassurance that it’s all just fine.

John Batdorf has recoded on albums with Rod Stewart, Dwight Yoakum, Jefferson Starship and Adele and lots more. But this EP is all his own honest heartland rock.  Give it a listen,  Musicians on the album in addition to John are Michael McLean, Dean Parks, Michael Dowdle, Bill Batstone, and Dave Pearlman.
