60 Year Old Groove

$12.50$20.00

This is my new 10 song CD which is my first full length CD since “Last Summer” in 2020. I have been releasing EPs since then but the songs kept coming this time so I went with the full CD. There are nine new Batdorf/McLean songs and one I wrote alone. At age 72, I am thrilled to still be so inspired to write and record. The thrill has not lessened one bit since my debut record, “Off The Shelf” in 1971. For an old guy, I’m still pretty damn good!!

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf/Matt Batdorf/Michael Dowdle
Produced, Arranged, Engineered and Mixed By John Batdorf

1964 we all gathered round, 2024 we still love that sound
Something deep in inside us echoes in our bones
When we are feeling lonely, we know we’re not alone

Chorus

Come on come on, come on come on
Come on come on. just sing along
And feel brand new to a
60 year old groove

I’ve been thinkin’ baby. about a past that’s gone
I’ve been thinking baby, it’s been here all along
Every riff  that I hear, takes me back to 17
Every one who lived it, knows just what I mean

Chorus

Come on come on, come on come on
Come on come on. just sing along
And feel brand new to a
60 year old groove

Bridge

Those who remember all those great days goin’ back in time
If you don’t know can’t explain it makes everything just feel
Everything just feel so fine1964 we all gathered round, 2024 we still love that sound
Something deep in inside us echoes in our bones
When we’re feeling lonely baby, we know we’re not alone

Chorus

Come on come on, come on come on
Come on come on. just sing along
You’ll feel brand new to a
60 year old groove

Track 02 – All Dressed Up

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf and Michael Dowdle
Produced, Arranged, Engineered and Mixed By John Batdorf

He took all the armor off, put on his flip flops
And his favorite sleeveless top, grabbed an ice cold Schnapps
Near an old pawnshop, where he proudly hocked
The cross his family gave him
Then took a long Sunday drive, driven by his pride
Where he justified. breaking all the ties that bind
With those who testified
Of things he now denies
About the way they raised him

Chorus

He’s all dressed up self satisfied
He’s not messed up now he’s left that life behind him

He wears a standard uniform rebels all have worn
When they feel reborn, those who won’t conform
To all the rules and norms, things his world had warned
Him might bring pain and heart ache
Then when all the cash is gone, His friends have all withdrawn
Feels like Babylon, was really just a con
But how can he move on, where can he belong
When all hope’s gone who’ll take him

Chorus

He’s all dressed up  no place to go
Oh, he’s all messed up what he thought was true may not be so

Bridge

Am I the one who has chosen, chosen today
To show he is not forgotten and I’ll be here until he finds his own way

I’ll sit and hold his pain, Listen and refrain
From causing any shame, never was my aim
In time I might explain, about the one who came
To heal us in our anguish

Chorus

I’m all dressed up wings are concealed
Though I am messed up love reveals how awkward angels feel
When you’re all dressed up
And got no place to go

Track 03 – Always Remember

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf
String arrangement by Bill Evans
Produced, Arranged, Engineered and Mixed By John Batdorf

In the dark night of my lost soul, I still remember
How you made my broken heart whole, Once I surrendered
To the love that we both promised always is true
The promise that would last forever to always remember
What am I gonna do, what am I gonna do without you

When I stumble and I’m weary, Help me remember
How I felt when you were near me, Here in my center
The very place where we both promised, Always is true
The promises that we made together, to always remember
What am I gonna do, What am I gonna do without you

Bridge

Always trusted you, Though I never knew
All the ways you’d change me, every step ahead
I won’t be misled, Tell me what you’d have me do, Just Remember
To the love that we both promised, always is true

The promise that would last forever to always remember
What am I gonna do, how can I make it through
If I don’t remember……..You

Track 04 – Nobody Sees Me

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf / Matt Batdorf and James Harrah
Produced, Arranged, Engineered and Mixed By John Batdorf

Nobody sees me, no one even cares
Nobody believes in me, it’s like I’m just not there
Can’t even get canceled, cause I’ve never been heard
Nobody is listening, to a single word, to a single word

Chorus

But if they took the time to see me
If they found the part of me that they don’t know, know, know, know, know
If they heard me for a second
They’d be screaming for the next one at my show but nobody shows

Nobody feels me, No one even tries
When my heart is achin’, no one ever cries, no one ever cries

Chorus

But if they took the time to feel me
If they found the part of me that they don’t know, know, know, know, know
If they heard me for a second
They’d be screaming for the next one at my show but nobody shows

Bridge

So why do I keep tryin’, keep putting all my heart and soul
Out there if nobody cares
What makes me keep on writing, and feel each song is answering
Some sad desperate prayer

Nobody sees me, no one even cares
Nobody believes in me, it’s like I’m just not there
Can’t even get canceled, cause I’ve never been heard
Nobody is listening, to a single word, to a single word

Chorus

But no matter the reaction, no matter if I don’t get any views
no no no no
If nobody can believe in me I think it’s time that I just spread the news

Nobody sees me, but I’m tellin’ you
Nobody believes in me
But I do, I do, I’m tellin’ you I do

Track 05 – All The Time You Need

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf / Michael Dowdle
Produced, Arranged, Engineered and Mixed By John Batdorf
From when you called for me in deep distress
I got the feeling you were truly scared to death
Your eyes were beggin me don’t go anywhere
You had a story that I felt you had to tell
I was afraid it was about your trip through hell
You caught a part of me so unpreparedChorusSo you stared at the clock repeatedly
Afraid of takin’ too much time from me
Though I promised you I’d never leave, no I would never leave
In every healing that will make you strong
There’s the feeling that it takes too long
It cannot be too long for you and me
Got all the time you need
We took a moment to try just slowin’ down
We didn’t rush into the darkness all around
We never focused on the things that just aren’t fair
Eventually the light came shining through
And it revealed things that we just never knew
Without a single word filling the airChorusAs an hour passed or maybe two
So strange how all the time just flew
All the broken parts inside refused to bleed
And there was hope that you could then move on
Let the stillness do it’s work as long
As it will take until you’re finally free
With all the time you needBridgeWhen you were shakin’, felt all was breakin’
Yet in the stillness friend the love was always there
And when it’s not my turn to sit and hold
If I’m the one who needs to be consoled
I’ll trust there’s more than time enough to spareChorusAnd in the silence light comes shinin’ through
And it will teach me things that I never knew
Without a single word the silent voices lead
And in the moments that are here and gone
I’ll let the stillness do it’s work as long
As it will take until my soul’s been freed
With all the time I need

Track 06 – Where Did I Go Right

Lyrics

The Talent:
John Batdorf/James Harrah

This one’s for me on the days when I’m down
Thinkin’ bout everything I got all wrong
All of the times that I should have turned around
Those are the days I sing this song and
This is that day’s song

This is the tune that comes so easily
It’s the score to the fading of the light
But there is a chorus that’s reminding me
The answer that seemed out of sight it’s
Where did I go right

B Section

I never gave up, when the love we had
Took a back seat to a rough career
Something inside of me screamed never let this go
That miracle that gave you her

Humming the tune of the verse when I’m down
Isn’t as comforting as I would like
But then there’s this chorus that comes around
8 Bars of singing Where did I go
Where did I go right

B Section

I never gave up, when the love we had
Took a back seat to a rough career
Something inside of me screamed never let this go
That miracle that gave you her

This is the tune that comes so easily
It’s the score to the fading of the light
But there is a chorus that’s reminding me
The answer that seemed out of sight it’s
Where did I go right
He’s where I went right

Track 07 – Simple Man

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf/James Harrah

I’m a simple man a simple man
And hope I live up to my creed
A simple man a simple man
A handshake is all I ever need

B Section

And I stand behind everything I say
Yes I if the job isn’t finished til it’s done I promise I’ll stay

I’m a simple man a simple man
If I have a debt I will pay
I’m a simple man a simple man
I’m black or white without much gray

B Section

And I want to honor those who’ve made me free
Yes I will give every last breath  and all that I have for my family

Bridge

Cause I have a plan
To give all the respect they deserve
And I understand
What it means to be faithful, devoted and true to my word

I’m a simple man but I understand
My kind is a fast dying breed
I’m a simple man, do all I can
To live true to what I believe

B Section

And I stand before you as just what I am
Yes I’m nothing less nothing more than I always have sworn
Was a good simple man

Track 08 – Love Believes In Us

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf/Diane Sansom
Cello Arrangement: Renney Senn

I believe things you don’t believe &
You believe I have lost my mind
I believe if we work together
Love will conquer all in time

I believe that be–yond believing
There’s a place that is yours and mine
Every step that we take together
Is how souls become aligned

Chorus

Love was never  meant to be just
Moments that are here and gone. oh no
It’s a living  breathing always
that for me goes on and on and

I believe I am trying to tell you
From a place that’s beyond belief  when
Love’s the gift that we give each other
Miracles will never cease

Chorus

Love was never meant to be just
moments that are here and gone. no
It’s a living breathing always
that for me goes on and on and on…

Bridge

There’s no call for compromising
Deepest thoughts don’t need disguising
All the things we must be sure of
Find the truth seen through the light that shines in us

I believe we might be receiving some
Feelings we should not give up
And I believe we should let love lead us
Cause I believe love believes in us
I believe love believes in us

Track 09 – Somewhere

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf/Michael Dowdle

I’m running late as I usually do, Where are my keys my phone?
If traffic’s bad on rte 22, perhaps I oughta stay home
My fear of missing out comes up, stresses me out all the time
I’ve got a great big knot in my gut,
Would missing out be such a crime

Chorus

Somewhere I can find a place to,
Put the world on hold awhile until I find my own way
Somewhere I don’t have to race to,
then turn around just to race again to get away

Why is a message on this little screen,  telling me where I should be
Why do I always feel right in between,
Those on line and someone like me
Why is it just so hard to ask for help, I seek advice that’s online
That isn’t helpin’ me to find myself, I’m racing rround all the time

Chorus

Somewhere I can find a place to,
Put the world on hold awhile until I find my own way
Somewhere I don’t have to race to,
then turn around just to race again to get away

Bridge

Have you ever looked at the man in the mirror
And caught a glance of the chaos inside
He lives his life just surviving the fear that
He’ll have no future if he doesn’t try

That future’s just an illu-u-sion, The past is already gone
When we’re living our lives in confusion,
Something inside says we’re wrong
The ones who think they are leading the way,
The truth is they don’t know how
So just slow down and feel your way,
No one can race their way to now

Chorus

Somewhere I don’t have to race to
then turn around just to race again  to get away
Somewhere I can find a place to
Put the world on hold awhile until I find my own way. today

Track 10 – Why Did It Take So Long

Lyrics

The Talent:
Players and Singers: John Batdorf/Michael Dowdle

Why did it take so long, to write such a perfect song
At 71, I thought that I would be done but I’m still having so much fun
I still have a thought or two, that I’d like to share with you
So come to a show, you know that I’d like to know
If you feel the same way too.

Chorus

None of us know when it’s over, none of us know when it’s our time
All I can show you is what I do best
So here is my perfect song, I’m so sorry it took so long

I’m not sure what I would do, if I couldn’t sing for you
Or play my guitar, and pretend I’m a star, like so many I’ve admired
It’s been such a way of life, for me and for my wife
I’m so amazed. I have lived everyday, with a song inside my heart

Chorus

None of us know when it’s over, none of us know when it’s our time
All I can show you is what I do best
So here is my perfect song, I’m just sorry it took this long

Bridge

Melodies that come to me keep playing my head
Like a dream in harmony, So much better sung than said

Why did it take so long, to write such a perfect song
But I’m so glad it came, with such a happy refrain
And I’m hoping you’ll sing along

Chorus

None of us know when it’s over, none of us know when it’s our time
All I can show you is what I do best
So here is my perfect song, I’m just sorry it took so long
